I had a hard time not laughing when Aurora told me about school today. But these things are truly hard. I’m so glad that the school has the kids all practice together….

Aurora: I have decided what the worst class is in school!!
Me: Oh?
Aurora: Social skills!
Me: because it’s hard?
Aurora: NO! Because it’s boooooring!!! Today we had to practice [outraged voice] LOOKING IN EACH OTHER’S EYES!
Me: Oh.
Aurora: Tomorrow we have to practice GREETINGS! Uuuuugh!

Kira saw me fixing my coffee and asked for some. I put a tiny bit in a cup and asked if she wanted milk and sugar. K: no! Me: are you sure? Even sugar? K: yucky sugar! Me: ok…. She’s now sitting next to me watching Winnie the Pooh and taking sips of her black coffee. No shudders, just concentration on the movie. 😂

I’m sitting in my room doing stuff while Aurora is practicing her violin. I hear her slowly play a sequence of notes that didn’t seem to make a tune so I start paying attention because I don’t know what she’s up to. The next repeat she’s adjusted her fingers and is counting the note beats better and I can recognize what song she’s trying to play. The third time through is a passable rendition of the beginning of a song she’s never played before today. She’s reading the notes and figuring it out herself. Seriously proud mommy here. ❤️😄

I had to tell him to stop hugging and licking the ice cream maker…..

Kira took her dog for a walk this evening. She dragged it most of the way. 😁

Because sometimes violin practice needs to be even more challenging (her feet are not touching the ground).

Kira pulled Aurora’s violin out of its case and asked to play it. That’s a ¼ size violin that looks small next to a full size, but in Kira’s hands it looks huge. :)

Kira’s hit the age where she’s correcting her own pronunciation of words. :( I asked her if she wanted her octopus dress today and she answered, “Yes, aw-pus dess! Oc-toe-pus!”

Please, child, can you keep calling kitty cats “key cats” and marshmallows “smarshmellows” for a while longer? <3

Summer break is off to a great start. :)

Celebrating the school year being OVER with chocolate cake! I love the various reactions the kids gave me when I said I was taking a lay day of school picture. :)

My cheerful Quinn. ❤️

Kira is drawing our neighbor’s puppy. ❤️

I don’t know how much longer they’ll enjoy matching pjs but right now they’re all thrilled with the My Little Pony pjs I found on the discounted rack. 😁

Kira came running out of my bedroom with my old watch on her arm. Quinn saw it and tried to catch her while exclaiming, “Oh no! Not Mommy’s time bracelet!”
Now I want to go back to wearing my watch just to call it a time bracelet. That’s so much cooler. :)

I’m playing with Kira, pretending to be a dog…
Me: ruff, whimper, ruff
Kira: You not a puppy! You a key cat!
Me: Meow, meow
Kira: You not key cat! You uh….Howard!

…I have no idea what a Howard is. LOL.

We hiked down to Rainbow Falls this afternoon.

Apr 25, 2018 11:37pm

The adorableness never ends with Kira. She insisted on bringing her stuffed seal to the children’s museum and is helping it do activities. :)

Apr 25, 2018 11:36pm

Kira was very proud of her very pink, very sparkly outfit today.

I just had a parent-teacher conference with Aurora’s teacher. I love it that her teacher can see the way that she shines so clearly. I get so caught up in the struggles we have at home that I forget how awesome my kid is. ;) <3

Aurora is the kid who runs to offer hugs and encouragement to kids who are hurt, she’s the one who writes notes to the troublemaker saying “you made a bad choice but I’m still your friend” (and the kid keeps every single note the teacher says), she makes sure her teacher gets a hug every morning and every afternoon, she’s the kid braiding flower chains and giving them to other kids during recess, she’s the kid who does spins and cartwheels when she’s given an award at a school assembly, she’s the kid sneaking books into her desk (*ahem*), and she’s the kid who argues that she knows everything but is willing to listen so that the teacher can teach everyone else (after being reminded about that).
